Transport - harnessing the revolution We are on the cusp of a transport revolution. Our traditional understanding of transport is being challenged again and again by new technology, new players, new demands from customers and new thinking. It’s a disruption, a convergence that will change how we think about transport forever. From electric vehicles to autonomous driving technology, car and ride sharing and digital platforms - mobility as a service will soon be the new normal and the private sector will become crucial to future transport success.  Are we ready?

Dr. Susan Krumdieck
UNI OF CANTERBURY

Transport Transition Engineering
The theme for the day is Sustainability. But the problem is un-sustainability.  This interactive lecture introduces the methodology of Transition Engineering by taking on the most intractable problem in Transportation Engineering – The automobile suburb.

A.P JEREMY WOOLLEY
UNI OF ADELAIDE

How can we have a better road safety response?
One could be mistaken for assuming death and injury is an inevitable consequence from the operation of our road system. Although the response to road trauma has evolved significantly over time, theory and practice is now gaining momentum in demonstrating how we can have a better response to road safety. This in turn changes the way we perceive the problem and how we go about finding solutions.

COLIN BRODIE
NZ TRANSPORT AGENCY

Zero deaths and serious injuries: leading a paradigm shift to a safe system
New Zealand’s road safety strategy, Safer Journeys, adopted the Safe System approach seven years ago. But what does this really mean? Over the last 3 years Colin was a member of an OCED/ITF international working group writing a guide with the above title. He will share that experience, his contribution, learnings and what this may mean for New Zealand.

WAYNE MOON
VICROADS

Safe system in practice
Wayne will present on the practical planning and application of Safe System in Victoria – particularly some of the innovative solutions, new technologies and value for money interventions. His presentation will include aspects which have challenged conventional thinking both internally and externally within the community. Interestingly, his role is relatively close to the coal face and should be of interest to many similar practitioners wanting to get Safe System 'into the system' and 'onto the road'.....ideally, leaving some of his experience with the NZ road safety and transportation industry to take and apply where appropriate.

INSPECTOR FREDA GRACE, NZ POLICE

NZ Police perspective
Freda will cover off a few facts, things NZ Police are generally focusing on and why. Freda will also discuss the drone project /ANPR (technology) to aid in traffic enforcement.
